With the discovery of new forms of construction and texture, Mosaics are now, more than ever, an utmost decorative and functional element making the work more complete and attractive. Genesis, the Gift of Life
by Miguel Covarrubias, mural in glass mosaic,
made in 1953 to 1954;
originally installed by The Cavallini Company, Inc. in 1954.
| Commissioned by Peter and Waldo Stewart to be displayed on the Stewart Building in Dallas, Texas, the mural is based upon the Indian concept of the four elements, from left to right: water, earth, fire and air (or sky). In 1993, Comerica Bank-Texas made a generous donation to restore and move this spectacular mural to the entrance of the Dallas Museum of Art's Museum of the Americas. After the mosaic was moved, Publio Cavallini was called to restore the mural in 1995. |
